Top Station Sunrise

Above The
Clouds.

← Back to all stories

Top Station is arguably the most famous viewpoint in Munnar. Located on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, it offers a panoramic view of the Western Ghats. But with fame comes crowds.

The Good

When the conditions are right, it is magical. You are literally above the clouds. The sun rises from behind the Theni valley, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. It's a photographer's dream.

The Bad

It gets crowded. Very crowded. On weekends, you might have to jostle for space to get a clear view. Also, the weather is unpredictable. You might wake up at 4 AM only to find the view completely blocked by thick fog.

The Verdict

Is it worth it? Yes, but only on weekdays. If you are visiting on a weekend, skip it and head to a quieter spot like Pazhathottam or the Vattavada viewpoint.

Practical Tips

  • Reach Early: Sunrise is usually around 6:00 AM. Try to reach by 5:30 AM to get a good spot.
  • Dress Warm: It is freezing up there in the mornings. Gloves and beanies are recommended.
  • Stay in Vattavada: Top Station is just 15 minutes from Vattavada, compared to an hour from Munnar town. Staying with us gives you a head start.

Alternative

If you hate crowds, ask us about the "Secret Sunrise Trek" near our campsite. It offers similar views with zero tourists.

Some views are worth the effort. Top Station is one of them.
