Wild Side.

Vattavada is a trekker's paradise. Unlike the steep, rocky cliffs of other hill stations, the terrain here is rolling and green, making it perfect for beginners and families. Here are our top 5 picks for trails that offer high rewards for moderate effort.

1. The Pine Forest Walk

Difficulty: Easy
Duration: 1 Hour

This is less of a trek and more of a nature walk. Located near the entrance of Vattavada, this trail takes you through a dense cluster of pine trees. The floor is carpeted with pine needles, and the sunlight filters through the tall canopy in beautiful beams. Perfect for photography.

2. Chilanthiyar Falls Trek

Difficulty: Moderate
Duration: 2-3 Hours

We've dedicated a whole article to this one! It takes you deep into the forest to a hidden tiered waterfall. The path can be slippery, but the refreshing dip at the end is worth it.

3. Pazhathottam Ridge Hike

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Duration: 1.5 Hours

Start early morning for this one. The trail follows the ridge line of the mountain, offering views of Tamil Nadu on one side and Kerala on the other. It's windy, open, and offers the best sunrise views.

4. The Strawberry Farm Trail

Difficulty: Easy
Duration: 2 Hours

This trail winds through the agricultural heart of Vattavada. You walk past terraced farms growing carrots, beans, and strawberries. It's a great way to see the local life up close. Most farmers are happy to let you taste the produce if you ask politely.

5. Kottakamboor Village Trek

Difficulty: Moderate
Duration: 3 Hours

For those who want to go a bit further, the trek to Kottakamboor offers a glimpse into a remote tribal settlement. The path goes through Shola forests and offers sightings of the Nilgiri Langur and Giant Malabar Squirrel.
