Kundala Dam is not just another dam. It is Asia's first Arch Dam and offers a unique boating experience that you won't find elsewhere in Munnar. Plus, if you are lucky, you might see the cherry blossoms.
Shikara Boating
Unlike the speed boats at Mattupetty Dam, Kundala offers 'Shikara' rides—traditional wooden boats similar to the ones in Kashmir. It's a slow, romantic ride where you can touch the cold water and enjoy the silence of the hills.
The Cherry Blossoms
Yes, you read that right. The forests surrounding the dam have cherry blossom trees that bloom twice a year. When they are in full bloom, the entire area turns pink, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.
Neelakurinji
The hills around Kundala are also home to the famous Neelakurinji flowers, which bloom once every 12 years, turning the green hills into a sea of purple.
Location
Kundala Dam is located on the way to Top Station, about 20km from Munnar town and just 10km from Vattavada. It's a perfect stopover on your way to our campsite.
Best Time to Visit
Early morning (around 8 AM) is the best time for boating. The mist hovering over the lake makes it look magical.
Whether you want a romantic boat ride or just want to sit by the water, Kundala Dam is a spot you shouldn't miss.
