Just a few kilometers from the main Vattavada junction lies Koviloor, a village that seems to have frozen in time. While Munnar races towards modernity with its resorts and traffic, Koviloor quietly continues its centuries-old traditions.
This isn't a "tourist spot" in the traditional sense. There are no ticket counters or souvenir shops. Instead, there is life—raw, authentic, and beautiful.
The Step-Farms
Koviloor is famous for its terrace farming. The hills here are carved into steps, each layer growing a different crop. From a distance, it looks like a giant green staircase leading up to the sky. Farmers here grow garlic, beans, and potatoes using traditional methods passed down through generations.
The Culture
The people of Koviloor and Vattavada have a unique heritage. Many are descendants of migrants from Tamil Nadu who settled here centuries ago. You'll hear a unique dialect that mixes Tamil and Malayalam. Their festivals are vibrant, loud, and incredibly welcoming to outsiders.
What to Do?
Just walk. Park your car and walk through the narrow village paths. Watch the mist roll over the vegetable fields. Smile at the locals—they will almost certainly smile back and might even invite you for a cup of tea.
The Trekking Hub
Koviloor is also the starting point for several treks, including the route to Kodaikanal (though permissions vary). For a shorter adventure, you can hike up to the nearby hillocks for a panoramic view of the entire Vattavada valley.
Why Visit?
In a world where we are constantly rushing, Koviloor reminds us to slow down. It shows us that happiness doesn't need high-speed internet or luxury brands. Sometimes, it's just fresh air, hard work, and a community that sticks together.
Gypsys Paradiso is proud to be part of this ecosystem, and we encourage all our guests to visit Koviloor with respect and curiosity.
